Preparing heifers for breeding
We have 350 very nice heifers we are preparing for breeding. These heifers are being developed primarily on forage. Heifers and bulls should be developed as close as possible to the life they will experience as adults. The manner in which the animals are developed set them for life in terms of nutrient needs. We believe this is very important if you want to develop easy keeping animals.
Around 80 of these heifers will be bred for fall calving. The rest will have bulls introduced in June for spring calving. The bulls will be left with the heifers for 60 days. I believe these will be the nicest bred heifers yet. There will be some black angus, red angus, and baldies. There will be a large number that are at least one half Pharo.
The pic is a group we were running through the working chute today. We were putting in ear tags and testing for Pl animals.
