Grass efficient animals
The pick is of a Charolais calf that resulted from a visit from the neighboring bull. It does offer the opportunity to point out the physical differences in the typical large frame animal as opposed to the moderate frame cattle we produce.
I can only put one pic in this post so you will have to look at other post to compare one of our Pharo calves to the Charolais calf in the pic. The Charolais calf has legs much longer and a smaller rumen, resulting is a straightener sleeker appearance. This type of animal does well in the feedlot but not so well on straight forage diet.
As a cow/calf producer my money is made from what God put out in the pasture. I want animals that are able to make the most of every bite of forage. I want animals that have a large rumen to stuff a lot of low quality forage in it. Cows that require very little attention from their owner. The Pharo blood line has been bred for this purpose. Gras efficient and easy fleshing. More pounds per acre at less cost.
